The School of Economics, in the Faculty of the Professions, is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual as Head of School.

As Head, you will lead research and teaching in the School of Economics. The School of Economics is strongly research-oriented. The School has a large undergraduate program, teaching into a number of degrees (including economics, commerce, finance and arts), and an expanding graduate program. Applicants from a range of fields of economics are encouraged to apply.

As Head of School, you will play a key role in promoting the engagement of the School in the public debate on the economics of key public policy and business issues and representing the School within the Faculty, the University and with key external stakeholders. The Head is also responsible for staff development and management, and for financial and infrastructure management. You will have the capacity to provide strong, cohesive leadership in the core responsibilities of education and research in the discipline of Economics. A successful track record in leadership in a complex educational and research environment, a distinguished research record, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and student support will be expected.

Salary: Level E ($168,584) per annum.
Superannuation: An employer contribution up to 17% may apply.
Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately for a period of 3 years with possible extension of a further 2 years. A continuing Level E position within the School will be offered following the satisfactory completion of the term as Head.

To be successful you should have:
• A record of excellence in teaching economics and curriculum development at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
• An outstanding research record in one or more areas of economics with appropriate international recognition.
• Ability to promote the engagement of the School in the public debate on the economics of key public policy and business issues.
• Ability to represent the interests of the School and the discipline of economics in the University community, and the wider community, nationally and internationally.
• A positive demeanour and excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
