The University is in the top five per cent of universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and attracts around 19,500 students (35% at postgraduate level) from 150 countries. It is well above the sector average for graduate employability in most of its subjects and in the top ten in the UK for starting salaries.

In the recent Research Excellence Framework, City made a greater improvement in research quality, per Funding Council research pound, than any other UK university. 40% of its total academic staff are producing research that is world-leading or internationally excellent. The Department of Economics in the School of Arts & Social Sciences is a leading centre for research and undergraduate and postgraduate education. The Research Excellence Framework confirmed the high quality of its research, with 54% graded as world-leading or internationally excellent.

The Department is seeking to appoint three outstanding academics to Lectureships in Economics. The appointed individuals will have published or will have the potential to publish world-leading or internationally excellent research and the ability to educate and supervise at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will play key roles in developing a growing and dynamic research-driven Department.

The successful candidates will be expected to take up the positions on 1st September 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.
