Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Syracuse University Department of Sport Management in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics seeks a sports economist for the position of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Sport Management for a new undergraduate major in Sports Analytics.

Consideration for a non-tenured faculty member will also be given to applicants with extensive sports analytics experience as an industry practitioner. This academically rigorous, economics and business-based program is a new 124-credit curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science degree and prepares students for immediate entry into the sport industry or graduate school.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, undergraduate and potential graduate instruction in sports economics and econometrics courses related to the Sports Analytics degree. Background, research history, and potential for future research in sports economics as it relates to various sectors of sports business, sports labor markets and player valuations, consumer behavior, and other related topics is desired. The ability to teach courses in sports economics and applied econometrics at the undergraduate level is necessary for the position. Candidates with strong teaching evaluations, the ability to work with students on sports-related projects, and a history of research publications related to sports economics will be given preference for the position. Salary and rank is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A PhD in economics is preferred, but exceptional candidates with ABD status will be considered. A Professor of Practice appointment requires a minimum ten (10) years of extensive and appropriate industry experience in sports economics, with an earned graduate degree.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will conduct individual and collaborative research; become an active participant in scholarly activities and community service; advise undergraduate students; and effectively handle other responsibilities associated with being a tenure-track faculty member. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with other academic units and departments across the College, campus, and the local, regional and national sport industry.

For a tenure eligible position, an earned doctorate in economics is preferred; or a doctorate in sport management with a research focus on sport economics and/or a related field. Appointment to faculty rank (open) is possible given an appropriate level of scholarship and teaching. Teaching, research and/or professional industry expertise with a focus on sport business analytics is preferable. The overriding requirement for faculty appointment, reappointment and promotion within the University Tenure Line must be distinguished performance and the promise of distinguished performance.

Syracuse University offers an excellent benefit package that includes tuition, retirement, comprehensive health care plan, paid vacation, and the opportunity for continued professional development.
