Full Text of JOE Listing:

Evidence Action brings evidence-based global poverty and public health interventions to scale to reach millions of people. Its two flagship programs, Deworm the World and Dispensers for Safe Water, reached over 100 million people this year. Evidence Action achieves impact at scale through supporting and implementing cost-effective interventions whose efficacy is backed by substantial, rigorous evidence. It seeks to be an industry leader in the drive for cost-effective impact at scale, and in the use of data for decision-making and measuring success.

The focus of this position will be to evaluate the generalizability of existing evidence and its applicability to program implementation, as well as provide insight on the nuances of an intervention’s causal mechanisms. The position provides the practical-minded economist interested in impact on the ground an opportunity to explore the gap between good ideas and what gets implemented—between internally valid studies and evidence generalizable to scaled programs. This position should be of interest to economists interested in the methodology of studying external validity in development economics, aimed at establishing a decision-making framework on what and how programs should be scaled. The economist will work in collaboration with practitioners, donors, and respected academic partners and friends of Evidence Action while using academic skills to contribute to the mission of Evidence Action.
