RTI is an independent, not-for-profit, university-affiliated multidisciplinary institute conducting impartial science-based research for government and industry. The main campus is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Regional offices are in Atlanta, Washington DC metro area, Waltham, MA, Chicago, IL, and other locations worldwide.

RTI seeks economists and health services/health policy researchers ranging from new, entry-level candidates to established researchers with relevant experience beyond the Ph.D. in academia, government, industry, or consulting. Candidates must have the ability to correctly conceptualize economic problems, design and implement appropriate research methods, apply appropriate quantitative and qualitative techniques, and effectively communicate both orally and in writing with clients and staff including non-technical audiences. More experienced staff will lead ongoing and new projects and contribute to grant and contract proposals to government agencies and other funding sources. Candidates should have interest in developing a research agenda, obtaining funding and contributing to the profession through publications and presentations. Duties: Conduct program and policy analyses related to substance abuse and mental health. Areas of interest include: industrial organization of health care and insurance markets as they relate to substance abuse and mental health services provision; substance abuse and mental health care financing and reimbursement issues, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance; outcome evaluation of substance abuse and mental health treatment and prevention programs; cost and cost-effectiveness of substance abuse and mental health treatment and prevention programs; quantitative analysis of the effects of substance abuse control policies, including tax policy; econometric analyses of the relationship between substance abuse and mental health issues and social outcomes including educational and labor market outcomes.
