The Faculty of Economics and Management of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) jointly seek qualified candidates to fill a position at the rank of

Assistant Professor (W1) in Applied Microeconometrics.

We expect the candidate to have a strong interest in teaching and research in Microeconometrics. Ideally the focus should be on empirical research in labor economics and/or firm productivity. A desire to apply economic research to policy questions is appreciated.

The Assistant Professorship serves to deepen the collaboration between the University and the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH). The IWH is one of the six economic research institutes of the Leibniz Association in Germany (www.iwh-halle.de). The IWH focuses on research in structural change and productivity, finance, and macroeconomics. The Assistant Professorship is associated with the Department for Structural Change and Productivity at IWH and adds to the research focus on labor economics at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

The requirements are: the completion of a PhD in Economics by fall of 2016 at the latest, the potential for successful publications in international journals, and ideally an existing network of international research collaborations. It is expected that the candidate will teach in the Faculty’s Bachelor and Masters Programmes. Knowledge of the German language is not a requirement for the position.

In legal terms, there will be an individual selection process carried out for the position hereby announced. The employee is assigned the status of a civil servant with limited tenure (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit). The contract will initially be limited to three years, and may be extended by a further three years given a positive evaluation.
