Emerson College invites applications for two full-time faculty members who will help plan and deliver our new undergraduate major in Business of Creative Enterprises (BCE), beginning in Fall 2016. Housed in the School of Communication but drawing on faculty from across the College, the BCE major will appeal to students whose passion for arts and communication is equaled by their drive to be leaders in the creative economy. It will prepare students to become future executives, managers, and innovators in new or existing creative enterprises in Arts and Entertainment, Communication, Media, and Publishing sectors. The BCE faculty members will aid in the construction of new curriculum, teach individual and team courses, and advise students. We seek candidates particularly committed to the college's core values of creativity, collaboration, and inclusive excellence. Successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

We invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Economics with a focus on Cultural Economics/Economy, Economics of the Arts, or other related areas associated with culture, media, and the arts. The candidate should be able to develop coursework and curriculum appropriate for students interested in leadership of creative enterprises as well as for a broader student population with specializations in the arts and communication. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise and research interest in such areas as media and cultural industries; non-profit operation; emergent and alternative business models in the arts and media; creative workforces and labor; political economy related to communication and the arts, inclusive of critical and heterodox approaches; economics of innovation and creativity; and the relation of cultural activity to regional economic growth and quality of life.

Teaching responsibilities include required and elective courses for the Business of Creative Enterprises Major and for students wishing to fulfill Liberal Arts distribution requirements in the area of economics. These additional courses could be in areas such as, but not limited to, macroeconomics or the candidate's area of expertise.

Required qualifications include: a Ph.D. in economics or a related field with expertise in the areas listed above, evidence of teaching excellence and commitment to undergraduate teaching, and a demonstrated ability to sustain an active research program.

The faculty appointment will be in the Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies. The Institute is a vibrant and engaged community of disciplinary-based and interdisciplinary scholars with over 60 full and part time faculty members. It is the academic unit responsible for the core curriculum that serves all of Emerson's majors and is home to a variety of disciplinary-based and interdisciplinary Liberal Arts Minors, the First Year Seminar Program, the Honors Program, and the Individually Designed Interdisciplinary Program. The Institute seeks in all its endeavors to facilitate cross-fertilization between liberal studies and Emerson's professional programs, foster global and multicultural perspectives, and embolden civic engagement.


Position 2:
Assistant Professor or Executive-in-Residence, Business in the Creative Economy

We invite applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Executive-in Residence (term, renewable) with primary expertise in fundamentals of business, preferably as practiced within the creative enterprise fields. Specific areas of teaching may include business models, analytics, data-driven decision making, finance and accounting, sales and marketing, business ethics and management of people, processes, and resources. The candidate should be able to develop course syllabi relative to the curricula within Emerson's new major, the Business of Creative Enterprises (BCE), and teach students interested in the leadership of creative entities.

Successful applicants must have a minimum of an MBA or master's degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field, and meaningful, related professional experience.. If you do not have university level or "formal" teaching experience, please briefly summarize your experience instructively leading teams, training teams or individuals, or any teaching-related professional experience you might have. Based on credentials and experience, the appointment may be at the rank of Executive-in-Residence (term, renewable) in which case extensive professional experience must be demonstrated or Assistant Professor (tenure track), in which case, a record indicating ongoing scholarly productivity will be necessary.

The faculty appointment will be in the Department of Marketing Communication, School of Communication. The Department was recently named #5 among undergraduate departments of marketing in the U.S. by USA Today, and it includes two Masters Programs as well as minors in Entrepreneurship and Business Studies. Its programs are professionally oriented and grounded in the liberal arts, jointly serving approximately 900 degree candidates. The individual selected for this position will contribute to one or more of these programs.
