We seek economists with strong applied research and interpersonal skills who are interested in policy analysis and program evaluation. We plan to be at the AEA meetings and are interested in PhD economists and PhD candidates who expect their degree in 2016. U.S. citizenship is required.

To actually apply for employment, you must also apply through the USAJOBS openings that we anticipate posting before the AEA conference in January.

Openings are anticipated with:
Center for Economics (Applied Research and Methods) The Center includes 25 PhD economists who contribute economics consulting expertise to GAO's public administration teams on reports to the U.S. Congress and Comptroller General. Economists in the Center enjoy the flexibility to consult on jobs across GAO teams and all sectors of the U.S. economy and federal governments such as public finance, labor, defense, homeland security, banking, infrastructure management, agriculture, environment, transportation, education, trade.

International Affairs and Trade (IAT) work covers a broad range of international policy issues including, for example, bilateral and multilateral foreign assistance, international trade policy and finance, foreign affairs managements, and countering foreign threats.

Financial Market and Community Investment (FMCI) --- FMCI supports Congress by helping to ensure that U.S. financial markets function smoothly and effectively. FMCI seeks a financial economist with expertise in quantitative methods, modern portfolio theory and/or general equilibrium modeling.
