The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia seek applications to fill a rank open, tenure-track or tenured position in education policy to begin in fall 2016. This is one of multiple positions in education policy the two schools anticipate filling this year.

We welcome applications from scholars who have a strong quantitative approach to education policy and earned doctorates in areas such as economics, education policy, public policy or related fields. Successful candidates must have a strong background in the substance of education policy and the potential for (junior candidates) or demonstrated success in (senior candidates) generating external funding for their research. Senior candidates must have a distinguished academic record suitable for a tenured appointment. Candidates for tenure-track positions are expected to have completed their doctoral degrees by August 1, 2016. We have a preference for candidates whose work addresses issues of K-12 education, but are open to other areas of education policy, such as early childhood education, issues of transition from school to work and higher education policy.

Built upon the strong foundation of one of the nation's top public universities, education policy at the University of Virginia is a strategic priority of the Batten and Curry Schools. The Batten School combines rigorous training in policy analysis with a unique emphasis on the acquisition of leadership skills. The core faculty includes economists, political scientists, and psychologists, enriched by professors of practice who bring real-world policymaking expertise to the classroom. The Curry School includes a number of nationally ranked PhD programs and is home to interdisciplinary scholars with a range of interests that compliment education policy.

The Batten School currently offers a MPP degree and an undergraduate major in public policy and leadership. The Curry School offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs including a PhD in Education Policy. The two schools collaborate on a dual degree MPP/PhD in Education Policy.

Batten and Curry co-host EdPolicyWorks, a vibrant research center. The Center is home to faculty and Ph.D. students from across the University interested in education policy. Faculty at the Center bring rigorous evidence to bear on some of the most important issues confronting education policymakers.
