We are seeking PhD Economists to join the eBay Economics Team both as full time members, and also for a one-year postdoctoral research position. Economists on the team use applied and theoretical microeconomic analysis to improve the eBay marketplace, support business decision making, and generate original and impactful academic research. The role requires work with a variety of methodologies, including online experimentation, econometrics, causal inference, and microeconomic theory.

Research is typically performed in collaboration with business partners. An ideal outcome for research would include internal learning, action taken as a result of the research, and (where appropriate) an external publication.

eBay has rich data sets of both transactional (prices, listings, sales etc) and behavioral (searching, browsing, clicks etc) data. We therefore can offer a unique opportunity to gain insight into market dynamics and sharpen skills in tools like R, Stata, SQL and Hadoop, along with traditional IO and applied econometrics.
