Microsoft seeks applications for the position of Researcher in the Office of the Chief Economist, Preston McAfee, at our Seattle-area headquarters. We will consider candidates ranging from fresh Ph.D.’s to those six years out. Candidates should have a sound empirical economic background and a desire to learn big data analysis techniques.

The position will work closely with Dr. McAfee and his team of economists and data scientists on high-impact projects involving core strategy, real-world market design and novel measurement techniques. Pursuing top-tier publications is expected and strongly encouraged. Topic areas include (but are not limited to) cloud marketplaces, dynamic pricing, search auctions, machine learning prediction, designing field experiments and demand estimation. Candidates should be able to operate independently and drive their own agenda as well as work with the broader team.
