The Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking applicants for a twelve month, tenured, open-rank, endowed faculty position with an appointment of 50% research, 40% teaching and 10% extension.

The incumbent will provide leadership for the Agricultural Banking and Finance Program in the Department of Agricultural Economics. This includes recruiting, advising, and mentoring approximately 55 students in the program, along with fostering scholarship and internship support from the Nebraska Banking Association. Responsibilities include teaching approximately two courses per academic year with the possibility to develop a graduate degree program in agricultural banking and finance. Possible courses include Agricultural Finance and Agricultural and Rural Property Appraisal. Research and outreach will be applied to financial capital markets serving agriculture, the macro-economic outlook for agricultural sector and its associated impacts on financial institutions and rural communities in Nebraska, as well as financial risk management strategies for Nebraska farm/ranch operations. The incumbent will be expected to obtain and leverage external research support for these activities and to publish in appropriate high-impact journals. Activities include collaborating with the Nebraska banking industry, including being an active participant in the various state, regional, and national banking conferences. Partnerships are expected with other IANR and UNL entities, regional university faculty, and public and private organizations focused on agricultural banking and finance. This includes possible participation in the Rural Futures Institute, Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program, UNL Bureau of Business Research and other academic disciplines within IANR.

Requirements include a PhD in agricultural or applied economics, finance, or a closely related area. The incumbent is expected to have a scholarly record commensurate with appointment rank; superior research, teaching, writing and communication skills; a record of excellence in extramural funding; evidence of team building skills via internal/external collaborations, and/or new initiatives and successful projects; ability to stimulate and provide leadership for team efforts; and demonstrated ability to apply financial economic models and analytical techniques to report current financial trends such as those that would impact Nebraska’s agricultural production sector as well as agricultural lending institutions in the State. Preferred qualifications include experience and familiarity with banking and financial management activities in both the agricultural production and agribusiness sectors; record of leadership in banking and financial management education; and the ability to communicate effectively with print, TV, radio and digital media outlets.
