Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is seeking an Assistant Director to head its Office of Research. Office of Research is an interdisciplinary group of economists and behavioral researchers. They lead the Bureau’s foundational research on consumer decision-making, household financial experience and behavior, financial services providers, and markets for consumer financial services. The Office of Research staff also are integral members of teams that develop policy and regulations and provide support to other offices in consumer education and financial institution oversight.

As the Assistant Director, you will lead and conduct the design of foundational, policy-relevant quantitative research on household finance and behavior or on consumer financial firms or markets. The results of this research will be shared broadly through reports, papers, and presentations. You will also be responsible for promoting a robust evidence-based policy-making process, helping to ensure the CFPB fosters honest investigation, open discussion, and refined understanding. In this role, you will promote a firm commitment to evidence and assist the CFPB to understand the nature and extent of the need for regulation of consumer financial markets and the costs and benefits of potential or existing regulations for firms and households. Additionally, you will oversee the completion of analytical support for complex supervisory and enforcement matters.

We are seeking a proven leader and manager to direct the Office of Research. Candidates should have experience directing or leading a program or team researching consumers, households, or financial markets. Candidates should have experience communicating goals and objectives, developing and defending plans and budgets to achieve goals, building coalitions to support their goals, and executing their plans effectively and efficiently.
