The Search
American Institutes for Research (AIR), one of the worlds leading behavioral and social science research and evaluation organizations is seeking a Principal Evaluation Researcher to join its rapidly growing International Development Evaluation and Research Program. Founded in 1946 as a not-for-profit organization, AIR uses the best science available to conduct independent, objective and non-partisan research to develop evidence to influence policy and improve peoples' lives. It places special emphasis on solving the developing world's most pressing social and economic challenges to help the world's most disadvantaged populations. Its clients include USAID, Millennium Challenge Corporation, UNICEF, International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3iE), Department for International Development (DFID) and the World Bank.

AIR has been a leader in international research in developing countries for decades. Its work spans both traditional development projects, including implementing programs to reduce poverty and improve health, education, and economic opportunities, along with conducting research, evaluation, and monitoring of such projects. In 2013 AIR created their International Development Evaluation and Research Program (IDER) to redirect and expand its international portfolio to improve the quality and relevance of social, economic and education programs in developing countries. IDER provides these countries and international development agencies cutting edge, well-integrated research, evaluation, educational assessment, and technical assistance. Current focus areas include education and conflict; education systems and teachers; health, hygiene and sanitation and social support; agricultural production and economic productivity; and language, literacy and child development

AIR is now seeking a Principal Evaluation Researcher to join IDER's growing team of development researchers. The Principal Researcher will focus his/her efforts on building IDER's work in research, evaluation, and technical assistance/capacity building. S/he will provide substantive methodological oversight of and leadership to projects, develop new clients and expand work with existing clients, and mentor staff. AIR is seeking an innovative and collaborative researcher with a deep knowledge of and demonstrated success in leading international development research, evaluation and monitoring projects. The successful candidate will be passionate about linking research and evaluation findings with technical assistance and capacity building efforts and will have a commitment to improving research and evaluation methodology. A Ph.D. in economics, policy, sociology, public health or related field is required.
