Principal Duties:
The Department of Agricultural Economics is seeking a self-directed candidate to develop an internationally recognized program of scholarly research, outreach, and teaching in risk management and farm-level decision making. The person filling this academic year position will be expected to develop a highly visible research-based program including acquisition of external funding and development of innovative educational delivery to stakeholders and students. The Department has a rich tradition in the area of agricultural policy and the successful candidate is expected to contribute to those efforts. The successful candidate is expected to disseminate research results through peer reviewed journals, Extension outlets, executive education programs, and online means of communication. The Department has a strong group of professionals focused on farm and agribusiness management and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the Department’s expertise and national reputation in this arena. Opportunities will exist for the successful candidate to develop innovative outreach programs to meet producer needs for applied research, to help them manage risks in the context of an increasingly volatile agricultural market, and to have a voice in national public policy discussions evaluating alternative market-based risk management tools. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work closely with complementary resources at Purdue including the Center for Commercial Agriculture and the Center for Food and Agribusiness, both of which are housed within the Department. In addition, the successful applicant will also have the opportunity to work with faculty and staff affiliated with the Purdue Soybean Center and the Purdue Climate Change Research Center in addition to a wide variety of other College and University resources. The department is committed to effective teaching and the person in this position is expected to contribute to excellence in classroom instruction at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications:
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, economics, business, marketing, management or other closely related field. Outstanding expertise in microeconomic theory and quantitative methods as well as evidence of program interests in problems related to production agriculture and national agricultural policy are required. This position requires a strong ability to communicate orally and in writing and the skill to be an effective teacher when working in the classroom or public forums. Classroom teaching experience is preferred. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.
