Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago has an opening for an entry-level or senior-level policy economist with the strong econometric and analytical skills required to work with new Keynesian Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) models.
This position is with the Chicago Fed’s Macroeconomic Policy Team within the Department of Economic Research. The Macroeconomic Policy Team conducts current economic analysis and original research to support the formulation and execution of monetary policy.
This position requires an economist who is interested in economic research that is both applied and policy-oriented. The position’s primary duties are the maintenance and development of the Chicago Fed’s DSGE model, the formulation and estimation of other time-series models used to support monetary policy, and the execution of other directed economic research that complements these tasks. While the duties of this position will allow some time for self-directed policy-relevant research, applicants should be aware that policy analysis will have the highest priority.

The successful candidate will have earned a Ph.D. in economics or a related discipline and demonstrated mastery of both macroeconomic theory and estimation of new Keynesian DSGE models. Furthermore, she or he will have computer programming skills sufficient both for the implementation of model estimation and simulation and for the direction of others in these tasks. Because the successful candidate will create valuable input into the formulation of monetary policy, good oral and written communication skills are essential. Salary and position will be commensurate with experience and level of achievement.
