Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) anticipates having one position open for a junior or senior Research Economist in its Division of Price and Index Number Research (DPINR). Economists in all fields, regardless of experience with price data or research pertaining to consumer behavior, are encouraged to apply. The applicant's field of concentration is less important than the desire and ability to execute frontier research.

DPINR is a research department, consisting of 12 PhD economists across a range of different fields. DPINR Economists evenly split their time between (1) engaging in self-directed academic research, and (2) consulting on issues related to Consumer/Import-Export/Producer Price Indexes and the Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE). Economists are expected to be active within the academic community by presenting in seminars and conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Consulting duties involve working collaboratively with the Price Programs and the CE to incorporate recent economic research into the official measurement and aggregation methodology.

We will attend the ASSA meetings. For full consideration, submit required application materials through JOE by December 1, 2015.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens at time of application. BLS is an equal opportunity employer. Please send inquiries about the position to PINR_Recruit@BLS.gov .
