Brown University seeks to recruit an outstanding economist focused on education research to join the faculty at the level of tenured professor and serve as Director of the Annenberg Institute for School Reform. Between endowment income and grant income, AISR has an annual budget exceeding $6 million to promote and nurture U.S. school reform efforts. Currently, the AISR director oversees 40 staff members in Providence and New York City. AISR also helps oversee an AM degree in Urban Education Policy offered by the Brown Department of Education.

AISR represents an extraordinary opportunity to establish an education policy center utilizing the most advanced methods in empirical social science research at a university with established strength in empirical microeconomics and related fields. The next Director of the Annenberg Institute should have the following qualities and qualifications:

● An earned PhD and a scholarly record commensurate with a senior appointment in the Brown economics department.

● Outstanding contributions to research in education policy, and a track record of broader engagement across the social sciences and other policy domains.

● Engagement with education practice.

● Intellectual leadership and vision for evolving the Institute’s agenda and programs in keeping with the goals of Brown’s strategic plan and the opportunities created by investment in policy-relevant scholarship in other parts of the University.

● Administrative experience and skills appropriate for overseeing a major research institute’s programs, staff, and resources.
