Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Department of Economics invites applicants for the first North Hall Chair in Economics. The appointment to the North Hall Chair will be made at the associate or full professor level to a distinguished scholar in Economics. The position is open to exceptional candidates in all fields of economics. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae. For primary consideration, apply by February 15, 2015 for a July 1, 2015 effective date. Thereafter, the position is open until filled.

The North Hall Chairs were created to acknowledge the crucial role that Black students played in the establishment of the Black Studies Department and the Center for Black Studies, through a 1968 takeover of North Hall—the building in which Economics is now housed. In Recognition of this transformation and ever mindful of the continuing need to educate all our students, the North Hall Endowed Chairs initiative is designed to bring to campus ladder-rank faculty whose research will diversify our presence of scholarship on and related to the Black World. The successful scholar should have demonstrated commitment to providing academic support to African American students and the mentoring of undergraduate student research. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service. The University of California is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, sex, national origin, or any characteristic protected by law including protected veterans and individuals with disabilities.
