Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Bank of England has made a commitment to increase our research capability; this is an invaluable opportunity to experience economic analysis, policy and research at the highest level if you're currently studying for a PhD.

For two to three months, you’ll be placed in one of a variety of divisions spanning monetary analysis, international economics, macroprudential oversight and microprudential supervision. Your research project will be on a topic of live interest to the Bank. While your exact topic will be at the discretion of the Bank, we will seek to involve you in deciding on it. In some circumstances, it may be possible to continue work on your dissertation.

Although most interns come to the Bank over the summer, we are flexible about the timing of the internship

Our PhD economists enjoy a rich and stimulating environment, have close engagement with policymakers, make a key contribution to policy analysis and should expect to spend a significant portion of their time on research across a wide range of topics in macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, finance, banking and regulation. To make a reality of cross-disciplinary approaches we would also welcome applications from qualified researchers in other disciplines

To be considered, you should be expecting to submit your PhD thesis within the next two years and be able to submit a recent research paper for our consideration (substantial work in progress is acceptable). Candidates pursuing a PhD in economics should be intending to take part in the job market no later than the 2016/2017 round.
All fields are considered, although we're particularly interested in candidates with a background in the following areas:
• Monetary economics
• Open-economy macroeconomics and international finance
• Applied econometrics
• Macro-finance and asset pricing
• Financial economics, including banking theory/regulation and credit risk modelling
• Economics of payment systems and networks

Please note that all appointments are subject to security clearance and immigration clearance.
A daily rate of £100 per day and pro rata holiday entitlement, based on 25 days per annum, is offered. Candidates who do not live in London will also receive a small accommodation allowance during their stay. Overseas candidates will be reimbursed for an economy class return flight to London

More information about research at the Bank and our offer can be found at www.bankofenglandgraduates.co.uk
