The Division of Economic and Labor Research, Office of Trade and Labor Affairs responds to a variety of knowledge needs and maintains an active research agenda in three core areas: cross-country macroeconomic policy analysis with a particular focus on labor markets; improved methods to enforce and promote compliance with worker rights internationally; and, the effect of international trade and economic policies and developments on earnings, employment and working conditions. We seek an international economist to carry out a variety of duties, including expanding our research and expertise on cross country macro policy analysis and on improved methods to enforce and promote compliance with worker rights internationally.

New PhDs (or candidates) are encouraged to apply at the higher-salary graded levels (GS 12 or 13) if they have any experience that is equivalent to one-year of government work at the next lower level. For example, applicants may claim to meet "Additional Qualification Requirements" at the GS-12 level if their CVs explicitly demonstrate fellowship-supported teaching or research that conveys experience communicating economics in formal or informal settings OR finalizing research papers for an audience of professional researchers. Interviews may be conducted at the ASSA meetings in January.
