Full Text of JOE Listing:

MIT is launching a new multi-disciplinary academic entity that focuses on the development of new foundations and methods to address complex societal problems. To support this mission, we are seeking candidates for multiple faculty positions starting in September 2015 or thereafter. Appointments will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. In special cases, a senior faculty appointment may be possible. Appointments will be made in partnership with MIT departments and the new entity. Faculty duties include teaching, research, and supervision of students. We will consider candidates with backgrounds and interests in the general area of Networked Systems and Connection Science, broadly defined. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, Economics or a related field by the start of their employment. Of particular interest are foundations and rigorous approaches for analysis, optimization, design and implementation of complex interconnected systems that increasingly integrate these methods with engineering, computational, social and economic systems. We are interested in candidates who have the vision and interest to contribute to the research frontier of this emerging interdisciplinary field. An ideal candidate will be able to combine the above foundations with domain expertise in one or more fields such as social, economic, and financial networks, transportation systems, healthcare, sustainability, energy, and cyber-physical systems, and will contribute towards the creation of a new graduate program in this field.

Candidates must register with the School of Engineering Faculty Search website at https://school-of-engineering-faculty-search.mit.edu/. Candidate applications should include a description of professional interests and goals in both teaching and research. Each application should include a curriculum vitae and the names and addresses of three or more individuals who will provide letters of recommendation. Letter writers should submit their letters directly to MIT, preferably on the website (https://school-of-engineering-faculty-search.mit.edu/letters/) or by emailing to the address below. Please submit a complete application by January 1, 2015.
