York University is an internationally recognized research university with well‐ established partnerships with leading universities worldwide. With a community of 65,000 and more than 270,000 alumni, York is the third largest university in Canada.

The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies is seeking an internationally recognized expert in the study of political, social, geographic and/or economic relationships between the global and the urban as a specific space of capital, ideas, culture, social networks, and people, for nomination to a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Global Urbanism. The ideal candidate will bring a new perspective to our internationally leading research capacity in the social scientific study of the urban as a core site of globalization and transnationalism, with an original and innovative program of research that may focus on a range of urban issues, including, for example: citizenship and belonging, civil society, gender, governance, inequality, migration, infrastructure, politics, social justice, surveillance, sustainability, and work. Tier 1 Canada Research Chairs at York provide an enhanced, focused and collaborative environment for outstanding senior scholars to further their internationally renowned program of research.
