The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine at the Florida State University College of Medicine (FSU COM) in Tallahassee, Florida seeks candidates with strong backgrounds in health quality, health IT, health services research, translational research, or patient safety. This is a tenure-track faculty position at the Rank of Full or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists who are studying health systems, behavioral health, public health, and patient safety. She/he is expected to continue an independent line of research as indicated by a strong record of publications and extramural funding, and to collaborate with FSU COM colleagues in developing a patient centered outcomes research portfolio.

Candidates must have a Ph.D., MD, or similar terminal degree. Teaching experience in an academic health setting is highly desirable as roles in teaching medical students and other graduate students are anticipated. Strong computer skills and medical informatics knowledge is highly desirable. The successful applicant, if a clinician, will be required to obtain a Florida professional license. Applicants with specific expertise in the areas of design, management, and evaluation of patient safety topical areas, quality improvement, and medical error reduction are encouraged to apply. Individuals with research interests in the areas of preventive medicine, chronic illness, behavioral health, or substance abuse are especially encouraged to apply, as are investigators who study the medically underserved, including minority, elderly, and rural populations. As a community-based medical school, the FSU College of Medicine is particularly well-suited for conducting research in primary care settings.

The FSU College of Medicine aims to provide community-based medical education that emphasizes the biopsychosocial model, primary care, and care for underserved populations. The FSU COM is located on the campus of Florida State University and strives for a collaborative culture across departments and university-wide. FSU COM faculty are distributed at the main campus of the university, and across six regional FSU COM campuses in Tallahassee, Sarasota, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Ft. Pierce, and Pensacola, FL. A clinical research network is currently being developed in association with the regional campuses involving training relationships with approximately 2400 community physician-clinical faculty members who practice throughout the state of Florida.
