The Community Service Society (CSS) is a leading NYC-based non-profit organization working to alleviate poverty through research, advocacy, litigation, and direct service innovation. We seek a dynamic labor and regional economist to join our Policy Team. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Policy Research and Advocacy, the position calls for experience carrying out applied research to drive advocacy for public policies that promote upward mobility for low-wage workers in New York City, increase labor force participation, reduce poverty and address income inequality. The senior economist will keep abreast of labor market issues and poverty trends, enabling CSS to comment on breaking news and issues.

Responsibilities include:
• Identifying compelling topics and producing publishable research that is newsworthy, influential and accessible to a broad audience in the progressive community, and
• Leading research-based advocacy that elevates CSS priorities on the public agenda and builds support for policy change and legislation.

Qualifications include a graduate degree in economics (PhD preferred) with experience advocating for change in the policy arena. Excellent oral and written communications skills, strong quantitative background, expertise using major public data sets, and the ability to work as part of a small professional team and in coalitions required.
