The Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP) seeks applications for the National Poverty Fellows Program. Up to three one- to two-year fellowships will be awarded with an anticipated start in mid-2015.

IRP, at the University of Wisconsin, administers the program with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) and the Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation (OPRE) within the Administration for Children and Families.

Fellows will be in residence at ASPE or OPRE in Washington, DC. Tasks will vary and may include conducting poverty-related research and analysis; contributing to planning; overseeing research and evaluation studies; and working on their own projects.

ASPE and OPRE seek scholars with backgrounds in concentrated poverty, poverty persistence and child outcomes; effects of recession on families with children; the social safety net; employment training programs for families with children; and economic self-sufficiency among families with children.

Successful applicants will have an interest in how evaluation and research are used in the policy process, and in building better links between research and policy.

IRP faculty will provide academic mentorship for the post-doctoral scholars in Washington, DC, and coordinate fellows' visits to UW–Madison.
