The Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI) of Qatar University is pleased to announce the availability of multiple post-doctoral research positions. These are full-time positions for a period of one year each, with a start date that is negotiable and the possibility of a one-year renewal upon mutual agreement.

Applications will be reviewed on November 1, 2014 and will remain open until filled.

Scholars with a recent doctoral degree from a relevant social science or related discipline, including but not limited to sociology, political science, public policy, public administration, economics, public health, demography, women’s and gender studies, education, statistics, and survey methodology are encouraged to apply. Candidates whose research intersects with issues of marriage and family, women’s health, immigration and migration, performance evaluation and education reform, or political attitudes and identity politics are strongly encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to candidates who have experience with collecting and using survey data as part of their own research as well as substantive interests in the cultures, societies, and public affairs of the Arabian Gulf.

Duties beside own research will include: participating in the development, design and implementation of national surveys in Qatar and comparative studies in the Gulf region; presenting results from surveys administered by SESRI at local and international conferences and to public and private sector audiences; co-authoring papers, articles, and research reports that utilize findings from surveys undertaken by SESRI; teaching seminars in collaboration with personnel from SESRI and the University of Michigan; collaborating with personnel from SESRI and the University of Michigan on research projects of joint interest; and participating in the intellectual life of SESRI and QU.

Compensation & benefits include: tax-free competitive salary, health insurance, furnished housing, holidays and vacation benefits as other research appointments at QU, paid flight and moving expenses at the beginning and end of their appointment, one round-trip flight home annually, educational allowances for up to three accompanying children. Funds will also be available to attend at least one professional conference during each year of the appointment period following the probationary period.
