The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, Office of Health Policy, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services anticipates openings for health economists. Duties include developing economic models; analyzing and interpreting data; evaluating the effectiveness of current policies, products or services; and advising on the suitability of alternative courses of action and the allocation of resources. The candidates should be able to explain research methodology and justify conclusions drawn from research data; evaluate past and present economic issues and trends; and write technical and non-technical reports and oral presentations, including for non-economist audiences.
Qualified applicants will have a strong background in applied microeconomics, possess strong analytical and empirical skills, as well as proficiency in oral and written communication. Candidate should have experience with data manipulation and statistical programs, such as SAS or Stata. Knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system and interest in applied policy issues are essential.
