The Department of Economics at Wright State University invites applications for a tenure track opening at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 2015. We are seeking a candidate with research and teaching specializations in the fields of International Economics and/or Labor Economics, and the field of Econometrics (with a teaching focus in applied econometrics). Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent, or be ABD, in the field of economics. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated potential for excellence in scholarship and teaching. As such, evidence of a promising scholarly career and of strong performance as a teacher will be characteristics of preferred applicants.

Scholarship and teaching are valued in equal proportions, while service expectations for assistant professors are minimal. Junior faculty members are expected to develop an active scholarly agenda that produces peer-reviewed scholarly publications on a continuing basis. Standard teaching is five 3-credit hour courses per year (semesters). The successful candidate must be prepared to teach both undergraduate and master’s level courses, including economic principles. Service duties consist primarily of participation in departmental governance. Salary will be commensurate with AACSB accredited business school norms.

Founded in 1967 and named for the aviation pioneers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, Wright State University is a part of the University System of Ohio, with an enrollment of over 17,000 students situated on a 557 acre campus just outside of Dayton, Ohio. The Department of Economics is housed in Wright State’s business school and offers degrees at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels with approximately 70 undergraduate economics majors and 30 graduate students. The department has 10 tenure-line faculty members who are all active scholars, having won six international, national, or university awards or honors for their scholarship in the past five years. The department is also committed to teaching excellence, to exposing students to a wide variety of subfields in economics as well as to the various methodological approaches used by its faculty to analyze economic problems. The Dayton metropolitan area has a population of nearly one million people, and together with the adjacent Cincinnati metropolitan area, makes up a region of over three million people, offering many arts, entertainment, and recreational activities in southwestern Ohio.

Initial interviews will be conducted at the ASSA meetings in January 2015. Wright State University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
