Applications are invited for a tenure-track joint position with 51% assignment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and 49% at the rank of Assistant Scientist in the Institute for Coastal Science and Policy (ICSP) to begin August 17, 2015.

Candidates are expected to develop an active research agenda supported by external funding, a commitment to innovative pedagogy, and a strong record of teaching and service to the university, community, and profession. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong research interests that couple tools of economic analysis with coastal and marine systems. Examples include the relationship of coastal and marine systems to regional economies, coastal communities and the industries they rely on, resource allocation, ecosystem based management, valuation of ecosystem services, natural hazards, water resources, adaptation to climate change, and impact of alternative policies. We are seeking a candidate who can contribute to the economics concentration in the interdisciplinary Coastal Resources Management Ph.D. program in ICSP.

The ECU Department of Economics (http://www.ecu.edu/econ/) has four undergraduate programs and an M.S. in Applied and Resource Economics, while participating in interdisciplinary M.S. and Ph.D. programs, and also works closely with the ECU Center for Natural Hazards Research, ECU Institute for Coastal Science and Policy, and UNC Coastal Studies Institute at Manteo.

The Institute for Coastal Science and Policy (http://www.ecu.edu/icsp) hosts faculty that integrate the social, natural, and engineering sciences for research, teaching, and outreach related to coastal and marine phenomena. The Institute's faculty, staff and students are dedicated to conducting interdisciplinary research on issues of critical importance to coastal and marine environments in North Carolina and around the world.

East Carolina University seeks to create an environment that fosters the recruitment and retention of a more diverse faculty. In order to promote the University's diversity goal, the Department of Economics and ICSP strongly encourage applications from among women, minorities, and historically underrepresented groups.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications for the position are a PhD in Economics, in hand or expected no later than December 31, 2015, or a PhD in an interdisciplinary program with strong emphasis in economic analysis. Applicants with demonstrated capability in environmental/resource economics and experience in applying for and working with external research funding are encouraged to apply. If hired as ABD, rank of initial appointment will be Instructor.

Applicants must complete a candidate profile, submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and one current research paper online at www.jobs.ecu.edu for the joint position 949070/000389. In addition, arrange for three current letters of recommendation to be sent to: Tenure-Track Search Committee, Department of Economics, Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, Brewster Building A-427, Mail Stop 580, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC 27858-4353. Letters may be submitted electronically by a university or commercial placement agency, together with agency cover letter, to the Economics Search Committee at millsc@ecu.edu. Screening will begin November 19, 2014, and continue until the position is filled. Please note that an official graduate transcript will be required upon employment.
