The Economics Department at Bates College, a private, highly selective liberal arts college in Maine, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Economics beginning August 1, 2015. A Ph.D. is preferred, but ABD will be considered with Ph.D. required at time of appointment. Each successful candidate must combine teaching and research in one or more of the above fields with a willingness to teach either Introductory Macroeconomics or Econometrics. Please specify your teaching preferences in your cover letter. The annual teaching load is five semester courses.

The college and the Economics Department are committed to enhancing the diversity of the campus community and the curriculum. We believe that campus diversity contributes to student learning, and we embrace our college’s aim to extend access to a Bates education to an ever-wider range of students. In your cover letter, please also convey how your teaching, scholarship, mentorship and/or community service might support the commitment to diversity and inclusion articulated in the College’s mission statement. Bates has a strong tradition of interdisciplinary studies. We therefore seek candidates who can contribute to our interdisciplinary programs.

Review of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled; however, priority is given to complete applications received by November 20. Preliminary interviews will be held at the ASSA meetings in Boston.

Applicants should submit the following: a cover letter, curriculum vita, graduate transcripts, statements on teaching and research, teaching evaluations, and three letters of reference (at least one of which must specifically address teaching performance and abilities). Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Bates is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Because the College recognizes that employment decisions often involve two careers, Bates welcomes applications for shared positions.* For more information about the College and the Department, please visit the Bates website: www.bates.edu.
