The University of Groningen is a top 100 university, and the Department of Economics, Econometrics & Finance is an active and international research group, consisting of approximately 60 people. Members are working both in fundamental theoretical research as well as in applied research. Central research themes are among others (applied) econometrics, banking, aging and pensions, microfinance, and industrial organisation. Members of the department have published in a wide range of top journals, such as Journal of Econometrics, American Economic Review, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Business and Economics Statistics, JRSS A, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Economics and Statistics.

The department is responsible for central courses the BSc program in Econometrics and Operations Research, and the Economics and Business Economics BSc program. These are all taught in English. In addition, the department is directly involved in the MSc programs in Economics, Econometrics, Operations Research and Actuarial Science, and Finance.

Currently the department has a vacant tenure track position with a focus on econometrics. Candidates are expected to strengthen the position of the Department of Economics, Econometrics & Finance. The department offers a dynamic academic environment with excellent research facilities.
Candidates have the ability to conduct high quality, original research and to publish in high-ranked international journals.

The candidates must have a broad and outstanding knowledge of econometrics. As to teaching, he/she contributes to the courses in the BSc and MSc programs, including the supervision of bachelor and master’s theses. We specifically search for candidates with a strong background in theoretical and applied econometrics. Areas of applications could be asset pricing, structural IO models, or microeconometrics. He/she has a record of outstanding academic research and teaching, and is internationally recognized, with the potential to publish in leading journals.

We will interview at the ASSA meeting in Boston (January 2015) and the RES job market in London (January 2015).

To qualify candidates should have:
1. Ph.D. in Finance, Economics, Econometrics, or Quantitative Economics;
2. Expertise in the field of Econometrics, demonstrated by evidence of ability (or demonstration of potential) to publish international academic publications, preferably in top tier or very good, peer-reviewed journals.
3. Proven interest and ability in developing courses and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level and in mentoring students;
4. International network;
5. Organizational qualities and excellent communication skills;
6. The potential to generate external funding for research projects.

Tenure track positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are temporary positions subject to a tenure decision after the period of six years. Formal tenure track requirements include criteria with respect to research prominence, teaching and external funds raising activities. During the tenure track period 50% of the position is reserved for research and 50% is devoted to teaching activities.

Employment conditions
The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3259 gross per month (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 5070 gross per month (salary scale 12) for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees.

Candidates will be appointed for a period of six years, on condition of a positive mid-term evaluation in the third year of employment. On the basis of a positive final evaluation in the sixth year of employment, candidates will be granted tenure.

We expect candidates to start by August 2015.
