The FDA anticipates openings for economists at the GS-12 to GS-13 level (salary range: $75,621 - $116,901) and at the GS-14 level (salary range: $106,263 to $138,136). Positions are on the Economics Staff, Office of Planning in the Office of the Commissioner, and cover agency responsibilities for prescription and over-the-counter drugs, medical and radiological devices, biological products, tobacco, food safety and nutrition, and veterinary products. Duties include conducting cost-benefit analyses of regulations and agency policies; quantitative, statistical, and risk analyses; and mission related economic research. Successful candidates must be able to write and speak clearly to groups of different sizes and backgrounds, and to work independently and on multi-disciplinary teams. U.S. citizenship is required.
We welcome all candidates with expertise in applied microeconomics (such as health, labor and demography, development, environmental, IO, welfare economics, and international trade) or regulatory economics. Initial interviews will be conducted Friday through Sunday at the AEA meeting.
