St. John’s University’s School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, a part of the Peter J. Tobin College of Business, invites applications for a tenure-track position in risk management and insurance. The anticipated start date is Fall 2015.

Applicants must either currently hold (or anticipate completing by August 2015) a doctoral degree in risk management, insurance or a related field. Applicants must show evidence or promise of excellence in research and teaching. The appointee is expected to publish high quality academic research and to teach, primarily a principles course on risk management and insurance in the Tobin College of Business’s undergraduate core curriculum.

Located in Manhattan, the School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, formerly “The College of Insurance,” is one of the oldest and most distinguished insurance education and research institutions in the world, housing the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Library, one of the world’s largest collections of risk and insurance materials. The school’s Actuarial Science Program is designated a Center of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries.

This position is contingent on budgetary approval. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching excellence, a statement of research interests, two publications or working papers, and three references.

Representatives of St. John’s University will be at the meeting of the European Group of Risk and Insurance Economists (EGRIE) in St. Galen, Switzerland on September 15-17, 2014, the meeting of the Southern Risk and Insurance Association in Charleston, SC on November 23-25, 2014, the meeting of the Western Risk and Insurance Association in Scottsdale, AZ on January 4-7, 2015 and the ASSA meeting in Boston on January 3-5, 2015.
