The Department of Marketing, Industrial Distribution and Economics (MIDE) seeks applicants for an Open Rank tenure-track faculty position in Economics. Persons sought for this position should (1) hold an appropriate doctorate or expected to complete that by Fall 2015, (2) have a strong commitment to research and scholarship appropriate for a major university; and (3) have a commitment and dedication to teaching excellence.

We seek qualified candidates from all fields and levels of experience, but applied microeconomists with evidence of research excellence and some interest in health-related research would be the most complementary with department and university resources. The department is actively involved in business and economics research related to medical product distribution, health care service delivery, human capital development, and mental health policy. Our department also maintains strong ties to the nationally ranked School of Medicine and School of Public Health.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is an internationally renowned research university and academic medical center with over $480 million in active annual research grants and contracts. In recent years, School of Business faculty members have assumed an expanding role as participants in major healthcare related sponsored research projects. The School offers a unique degree program in Medical Products Distribution that is a joint School of Business and School of Medicine effort. UAB has a Healthcare Leadership Academy for the training in management skills of high potential future leaders of UAB healthcare schools and healthcare facilities. UAB is an entrepreneurial institution that supports and encourages exceptional programs of cross-disciplinary scholarship and innovative programs of study. The Economics program offers a Bachelor of Science (Business) degree with unique concentrations in Mathematical Economics and Philosophy and Political Economy (PPE) that attracts very high quality students.
