The Department of Health Policy and Management of the Gillings School of Global Public Health, in conjunction with the Cancer Outcomes Research Program of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, are jointly seeking outstanding candidates for a tenure-track open-rank faculty position in health economics with a special emphasis in cancer. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2013 or when the position is filled.
The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) is housed in the School of Global Public Health, which is ranked second in the United States by U.S. News and World Report (www.sph.unc.edu). The Cancer Outcomes Research Program is housed in the Cancer Center which is a premier multidisciplinary research center designated by the National Cancer Institute (cancer.med.unc.edu).
This is a unique opportunity to join the multidisciplinary faculty and students of these programs who are engaged in research encompassing a wide array of topics and methodologies, including comparative effectiveness/safety, cost effectiveness, quality of care, disparities, survivorship, patient-centeredness, and regulatory science. Investigators generate over $100 million per year in external funding, with an additional $50 million annually from the state of North Carolina supporting the University Cancer Research Fund (UCRF). Applicants should possess a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, ScD) and have experience conducting research in cancer health economics, for example experience using longitudinal claims data and/or modeling costs using Medicare or other types of insurance data. Example areas of research interest include: behavioral economics; value-based payment/pay for performance; analyses using administrative claims data; discrete choice experiments; cost modeling; and cost effectiveness. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct independent and collaborative research, teach, advise students in degree programs, and provide support for undergraduate and masters research design and writing.
