Research Economist

The Inter-American Development Bank, the largest source of financing for development in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), is seeking one PhD-level economist to work in the Research Department (RES) starting summer 2013.

RES economists publish regularly in refereed academic journals and pursue policy oriented analytical work that informs the Bank regarding the development challenges and appropriate policy responses and improves the effectiveness and relevance of the operations of the Bank in its member countries.

We are considering new PhDs (expected to graduate by summer 2013) as well as those that have recently graduated. We expect the successful candidate to possess: (1) strong technical skills; (2) a record of -- or good prospects for -- high-quality original research in peer reviewed journals; and (3) the ability to communicate technical knowledge and expertise to a wide range of potential audiences. Preference will be given to candidates that combine a strong academic profile with an interest in policy and that have worked on topics relevant to development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Areas of Interest: This call is open to all areas but we particularly seek research economists specializing in: Environmental Economics, Industrial Organization, and Public Finance.

Members of the selection panel will interview during the 2013 Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) Annual Meeting in San Diego, January 4-6, 2013.
