Full Text of JOE Listing:
Microsoft Research seeks applications for research positions at junior and senior levels including postdoctoral positions for 1 to 2 years. Areas of interest include algorithmic economics, auctions and mechanism design, social networks, consumer demand for advertising and search behavior, and the economics of platform competition. Microsoft Research has strong interests in a range of methodologies, including both theoretical and applied research, econometrics, and experimental economics. Many empirical researchers at Microsoft Research work with datasets from various Microsoft businesses, including online advertising auctions, Xbox Live platform and other online services. Our theoretical and empirical economists have the opportunity to interact with other economists, social scientists and computer scientists inside and outside of Microsoft.

Microsoft Research is a unique entity among corporate research labs, balancing an open academic model with an effective process for transferring its research to product-development teams. Researchers are expected to publish in academic journals and to collaborate with the academic research community. Today, the world-renowned scientists of Microsoft Research constitute one of the largest and most highly respected research organizations in the world--one that will help define and redefine the computing and internet experience for millions of people for decades to come.

Successful candidates should have a PhD in economics or expect one by summer 2013 and should have a well-established research track record. Additional requirements include outstanding communication skills and the ability to develop original research agendas. Junior candidates must have demonstrated outstanding potential for leadership in their field as judged by letters of recommendation. Candidates should also be able to collaborate effectively with computer scientists and engineers.

Application Instructions:

We encourage applicants to apply through http://www.econjobmarket.org/; however, applicants may instead arrange to have cover letter, CV, statement of research interests, and three letters of recommendation to be sent by email to TQ Yasui tqnguyen@microsoft.com.
