Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Environment and Energy Team of the World Bank Development Research Group seeks one or more PhD-level economists starting summer 2013. Research Group staff conduct and publish academic-quality applied research, provide analytical support to World Bank operations, and broadly disseminate knowledge on a variety of topics essential for achieving the World Bank's ultimate objective--reducing poverty in a fiscally, environmentally, and socially sustainable manner. In addition to energy and environment, research by the Environment and Energy Team addresses climate change, natural resources, water, and urban/regional development.

We are considering both new PhDs and more experienced candidates with relevant post-doctoral academic or non-academic experience. We seek candidates with (i) strong technical skills; (ii) a record of -- or good prospects for -- high-quality original research in peer reviewed journals; (iii) the ability to communicate technical knowledge and expertise to a wide range of potential audiences; and (iv) excellent spoken and written proficiency in English. While specialists in all topic areas relevant to the Team's research programs are invited to apply, there is particular interest in candidates with experience in the areas of water resources, spatial econometrics or impact evaluation methods.

In addition to receiving a very competitive salary and benefits package, staff in the Research Group have unrivaled access to large quantities of country-level and more disaggregated information, and first-hand exposure to the practical challenges of economic development and poverty reduction. Research support funding is available to finance collaborating researchers, travel, data acquisition, and other expenses.
