South Africa currently tries to stay close to established groupings of both the semideveloped and developed countries as well as the third-world poor, often finding herself in paradoxical situations and strategy dilemmas. In line with this, South Africas image across Africa is far from unproblematic, with the latest xenophobic eruptions in the country illustrating the complexity of these changes.
