These are full-time positions for a period of one year each, with a start date that is negotiable, and the possibility of a one-year renewal upon mutual agreement.

Applications will be reviewed beginning on December 2, 2013. The positions will remain open until filled.

Scholars with a recent doctoral degree from a relevant social science or related discipline, including but not limited to sociology, political science, public policy, economics, public health, demography, women's and gender studies, education, statistics, and survey methodology are encouraged to apply. Candidates whose research intersects with issues of marriage and family, women's health, immigration and migration, performance evaluation and education reform, or political attitudes and identity politics are strongly encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to candidates who have experience with collecting and using survey data as part of their own research.

In addition to working on your own research, duties will include some combination of the following activities: participating in the development, design and implementation of national surveys in Qatar and comparative studies in the Gulf region; presenting results from surveys administered by SESRI at local and international conferences and to public and private sector audiences; co-authoring papers, articles, and research reports that utilize findings from surveys undertaken by SESRI; teaching seminars in collaboration with personnel from SESRI and the University of Michigan; collaborating with personnel from SESRI and the University of Michigan on research projects of joint interest; assisting in the development of new research projects at SESRI; and participating in the intellectual life of SESRI and Qatar University.

Compensation includes a competitive salary, which is tax-free in Qatar (but persons will still be responsible for any applicable taxes from their country of origin), along with a generous fringe benefits package that includes health insurance. Furnished housing is also provided at no additional cost outside of expenses such as utilities, cable, and Internet access. Post-doctoral appointments enjoy the same holidays and vacation benefits as other research academic appointments at Qatar University, including 35 calendar days of vacation annually. Applicants will have their flight and moving expenses paid for at the beginning and end of their appointment, as well as one round-trip flight home annually. Educational allowances for up to three accompanying children are also available. Funds will also be available to attend one or two relevant professional conferences during each year of the appointment period.

The Social and Economic Social Research Institute (SESRI), with a research and an educational mission, was established at Qatar University in 2008 to conduct high-quality survey research of current and future social and economic issues.
