Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics invites applications for a faculty position focused on food and agricultural issues. The University of Maryland College Park is a Land Grant University and, as a department within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, have a responsibility to conduct outreach education and applied policy research targeted at a broad array of clienteles, including state/local governments, farm businesses, civic groups, and industry representatives. Examples of issues of current importance to Maryland include: high-value agriculture, direct-marketing and entrepreneurship, agricultural and food industry organization, food and nutrition, food safety, farm business transition, beginning farmers, risk management, resource-based industries, agricultural policy, consumer issues, and others. The successful applicant is expected to develop an extension/public education/policy-support program working with local, state, regional and national counterparts in the agricultural business and financial management issues. The appointee will also be expected to develop an outstanding applied research program that supports their extension program. To that end, the appointee will provide leadership in designing, coordinating and implementing applied research projects, including collaborative work with other faculty members and/or graduate students in support of those programs, and will disseminate research results through scholarly journal articles, popular publications, workshops, and presentations to both professional and lay audiences. The appointee will be expected to teach one course per year in the department. The position is a nine-month, tenure-track or tenured position at the assistant or associate professor rank with rank and salary commensurate with the candidate's record.
