Position Description:
Develops and maintains relevant economic data; conducts long-range research aimed at advancing knowledge about the community development sector, improving consumer financial markets, and the theoretical and quantitative analysis used at the Board and by the economics profession generally. Supports the Board's regulatory and compliance functions in consumer credit, consumer financial services, and fair lending; analyzes developments in financial markets and options for regulatory decisions.
Special Training:
Demonstrates knowledge of and competence in applied theoretical and quantitative techniques in economics, finance, consumer economics, or a closely related field, typically accomplished by completion (or near completion) of a Ph.D. degree. Grade FR 27 Economists must have completed their Ph.D. degree. Strong analytical abilities; familiarity with relevant data sources, excellent communication skills, and sensitivity to the Board's priorities. Understands issues pertaining to the community development sector and regional markets. Demonstrates ability to prepare research papers that may be presented to the Board and its staff, given at outside seminars and conferences, or published in professional refereed journals and which require minimal substantive and technical editing.
Remarks:
The Economist will contribute to the research, analysis, and primary data collection conducted by the section to better understand the financial conditions of communities and the consumers therein. This may include the monitoring and evaluation of community development efforts designed to improve such conditions, particularly in predominately low- and moderate-income communities. The Economist may also contribute to research focused on consumer finances and financial behavior, be expected to maintain an active research agenda, and bring forward well-considered proposals for work to advance knowledge about factors affecting the economic well-being of communities and consumers. Finally, the Economist will contribute to the work of the broader Consumer and Community Development Research team as well as collaborate with other economists, research assistants, and management.
