Full Text of JOE Listing:
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks an accomplished and recognized economist for the post of Chief Economist. A non-supervisory position located in USAID's Bureau for Economic Growth, Education and Environment (E3), its principal functions are to provide economic advice to senior management (15%), elevate the profile of economic analysis (20%), cultivate and sustain economic expertise within the agency (30%), liaise with the broader development economics community (10%) and maintain an active personal research agenda (25%).
The successful candidate should have a record of recent publications in a relevant economic field applied to international development and interests aligned with the Presidential Policy Directive on Development. Strongly desired attributes include a demonstrated ability to transform theoretical insights into practical application, and the necessary political acumen to support effective implementation while being attuned to operational concerns of USAID's business; experience leading a technical/research unit within a larger (preferably public-sector) organization, an interest in both technical and professional staff development; and a facility for elucidating complex economic concepts to diverse audiences. It is a permanent position expected to be filled by rotating 2-3 year appointments - applications from the academic and research communities are particularly encouraged.
