The Economics Department seeks a broadly trained economist whose first priority is excellence in undergraduate teaching and who wants to pursue a career in a liberal arts setting for a one-year visiting appointment academic year 2013-14. Over the course of the year the successful applicant can expect to teach four sections of principles of macroeconomics, one section of environmental economics and three sections of applied courses for a total of four courses each semester. Attractive applied courses include resource economics, finance (managerial and/or private), international economics and courses we do not currently offer but in which our students have expressed interest (behavioral economics, experimental economics, health care economics, ecological economics, law and economics, etc.). The preferred candidate will also have demonstrated strong commitment to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting.

UNC Asheville, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina, is the designated public liberal arts institution of the University of North Carolina system, committed to quality student-centered teaching, student-teacher interaction, and mentoring of students in undergraduate scholarship and service, within an inclusive campus community. Liberal arts experience as a student and/or teacher is especially desirable as is an interest in contributing to interdisciplinary programs (Africana Studies, the Humanities program, Interdisciplinary Studies, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, etc.). A minimum of an M.A. is required with an ABD or Ph.D. preferred.
