As an independent regulatory agency, recently enhanced by the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the mission of the CFTC is to protect market users and the public from fraud, manipulation, and abusive practices related to the trading of commodity and financial futures and options, and to foster open, competitive, and financially sound futures and option markets.
Duties: Dynamic opportunity to provide expert economic advice to the Commission and guide its overall professional economic efforts. Performs cutting edge research and analysis on the economic impact of the CFTC’s regulatory policies on the futures industry and other sectors of the economy.
The Chief Economist position may be filled through a political appointment serving at the pleasure of the Chairman. Applicants such as university professors interested in assignment through the Intergovernmental Personnel Act Mobility Program are welcome to apply as well.
