Subject to approval by the Office of the Provost, the Department of Economics and the Environmental Science and Policy Program seek a tenure system faculty to develop an internationally renowned program of economic research that helps inform public policy and decision-making related to water resources. The rank is open but will probably be filled at the assistant or associate professor level and the appointment will be made on an academic year basis. Potential areas of research include connections between water resources and human health, environmental quality, energy and bioenergy, food and agriculture, utility pricing and regulation, poverty and inequality, economic development, climate change and adaptation, or other important social issues. Areas of economic specialization might include, but are not limited to: environmental and resource economics; industrial organization; trade; political economy; health, public, and development economics; or applied econometrics. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a well-funded program of empirical and/or theoretical economic research that leads to high-quality economic journal publications. Senior candidates are expected to have a well-established record of published research and a record of obtaining grant funding.

This position is part of MSU's Global Water Initiative, an effort to mobilize research expertise across our campus to address the world's most pressing water issues. With over 100 faculty members already working on water-related issues, the university has expertise spanning academic units within the natural, social, and engineering sciences. We are committed to pursuing research of the highest caliber, creating and testing solutions, and promoting better understanding of the challenges related to water. New hires will collaborate with current faculty to enhance disciplinary expertise, strengthen linkages across disciplines, and pursue external funding resources. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Public Policy, or a related field and are expected to have excellent research, teaching, and communication skills.
