The Department of Economics at the University of Victoria invites applications for a Senior Instructor position, starting July 1st, 2013. The successful candidate will teach a range of core and elective undergraduate courses and play a central role in the administration of undergraduate programs. Applicants must have a PhD or be ABD, with graduate level training in Economics, and a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. In very exceptional circumstances, outstanding candidates with an MA or MSc may be considered. Fields of particular interest include Macroeconomics, Money and Banking, International Economics, and Economic History. Senior Instructors are not expected to maintain a research program, but some record of scholarly publication is an asset. This may include research in pedagogy.
The position will require ongoing contributions to the improvement of undergraduate teaching in the Department, including leading the introduction of new teaching methods and technologies. The successful candidate will have experience teaching large classes, international students, and coordinating teaching across multiple sections.
This is a regular faculty position. The initial appointment period is three years. Thereafter, reappointment terms are for four years with the possibility of a continuing appointment after seven years. A Senior Instructor may apply for promotion to Teaching Professor with tenure. The rank is eligible to apply for Study Leave.
The University of Victoria is an equity employer and encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples, people of all sexual orientations and genders, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of the University. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
Please email applications, including a cover letter, a teaching dossier, and curriculum vitae including the names and contact information of three referees, to:
