The U.S. Census Bureau is an international leader in survey methods, statistical methodology, data integration, and data analysis. To continue its proud tradition, it is seeking to hire five senior research scientists who will be responsible for independent research on several subjects, for leading and mentoring junior staff, and for supporting agency initiatives for technical improvements in areas such as data product development, statistical and econometric modeling, data integration and adaptive design. Specifically, we seek to hire high-performance individuals in five areas:
o Survey Methodology
o Sampling Design
o Time-Series Estimation
o Data Integration
o Analytical Modeling
It is expected that the applicant will have the following qualifications:
1. A doctoral degree or publications and experience demonstrating necessary expertise in a social science, computer science, or mathematical statistics (as relevant to the position).
2. Demonstrated leadership, as evidenced by job history, letters of reference, and major professional organization activities.
3. Recognition as an expert researcher in the relevant field, as evidenced by a substantial number of publications in refereed journals that demonstrate the ability to conduct independent and influential research.
4. Experience in planning and conducting broad technical studies that are relevant to the activities of a government statistical agency.
All positions are senior-level (ST) positions. While there is no firm deadline, please submit your resume as soon as practicable.
While it is preferred that applicants will work as full-time Census Bureau employees, other avenues are available for collaborative work, including appointments (for up to two 2-year terms) under the Intergovernmental Personnel Act. Joint arrangements with universities in the Washington DC area are also possible.
