JOB SUMMARY: Lead the actuarial practice research activities of the Society of Actuaries. Develop and expand the Intellectual Capital of the actuarial profession. Lead implementation of a new organizational strategy for research, including research processes, success measurement, marketing and communications

-Lead and manage the Practice Research Team of the Society of Actuaries consistent with the Strategic Plan objectives (Develop Knowledge Theme), but also touching on the theme of Promoting Networks (e.g. research relationships) and other themes that may be needed to support Member, Employer, Public and Candidate stakeholders. Help establish the overall current and future SOA research agenda by contributing and working closely with high level strategic committees focused on the development of SOA Intellectual Capital such as the SOA Research Executive Committee (REC). Be the primary staff contact working with the REC.
Interact and contribute to Practice Research specific objectives. Coordinate and be sure objectives and staff activities are consistent with the highest level strategies as established by the REC, the Employers Council, Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
-Work to elevate SOA research to make it known to members and key stakeholders outside the actuarial profession, and develop and track metrics to demonstrate improvements in this area
-Provide guidance to practice research staff members including establishing priorities, administering reviews and personnel issues, and assisting in the advancement of the research process. Coordinate and monitor the work of paid researchers or vendors.
-Provide high level guidance directly and through the staff to oversee the activities of research volunteers. This is an extremely large and important group of volunteers that require constant monitoring, support and relationship development.
-Effectively manage and strategically integrate research from the SOA's emerging in-house research function, academic grants and academic research with other 'work for hire' practice research projects. This will include management duties of SOA's data-driven in-house research function.

Education: Masters or PhD strongly preferred, a minimum of a Bachelors Degree is required

-FSA credential is strongly preferred, but not essential
-A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
